Mr. Claude Walker - Acting on the Instinct of Love

By San Jose News Group, USA (Originally in English) 2008.01.22

Claude Walker of Rocklin, California, USA received the Shining World Hero Award from Supreme Master Ching Hai on January 22, Golden Year 5 (2008) for saving a man's life. On December 3, 2007, while driving home on a highway, Claude Walker saw on the side of the road a triple-axle truck that had overturned and was on fire. Seeing that the driver was trapped inside, he immediately ran to pull him out of the flaming vehicle. Mr. Walker never thought for a moment of his own safety, only that he had to get that driver out before it was too late.

Our Association members from the Sacramento Center presented the Award to Mr. Walker on behalf of Master at his home surrounded by his family members. Along with the Award, he was also given a hero jacket, Master's publications, chocolates as well as gift certificates to three local vegetarian restaurants.

Following this event, Mr. Walker wrote in his thank-you letter to Master: "I by no means ever thought that doing what I did would bring me all that I've been given in return... I perceived my actions as being not heroic or courageous, but simply what one's natural human instinct should be in a situation of someone's life being in jeopardy, as it was... Your organization took this story to a whole different level from what I had ever expected, and hopefully my story can be beneficial to others... I truly believe that what goes around, comes around and good things happen to good people... Thank You again for all of Your kindness and wonderful gifts!"

We are all thankful to Mr. Walker for his brave and selfless action.
