Colin and Carol Rothery - Opening Their Hearts and Home

Colin and Carol Rothery started to open their door and their hearts to children in need more than 15 years ago. After helping a needy person in their local community, they realized it was important to have a stable and safe place for children with behavioral issues, including youths released from prison. This environment would give the young people a good foundation to get their lives back on track. With three children of their own, they have over the past 15 years, fostered more than 64 children of ages ranging from 4-5 months to mature teenagers, for periods of 1-2 weeks to 7-8 years. The saying “as you give, so shall you receive” seemed very appropriate at the time when Carol and Colin were outgrowing the house they were in and a friend offered them a farm house which was spacious enough to accommodate the family of nine! Eight years later, they are still enjoying the luxury of space in the beautiful countryside of East Yorkshire.

In September of Golden Year 5 (2008), our Association members went to Barmby on the Marsh in East Yorkshire to present Colin and Carol Rothery with the Shining World Compassion Award and a US$5,000 financial contribution on behalf of Supreme Master Ching Hai. As a humble couple, they were very surprised that the work they do had been recognized by someone so special, knowing Master has done so much for the world. May God continue to bless such
