Loyal Anna

By Oregon News Group, USA (Originally in English) 2008.04.05

In April of Golden Year 5 (2008), representatives from The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association in Oregon traveled to Idaho to present a Shining World Hero Award to a special dog named Anna. She was an abused stray who was taken in a year ago by Ms. Candice Jennings.

One day in November 2007, at about 3:30 in the morning, Candice was awakened by Anna to find their mobile home engulfed in flames. They both ran outside immediately. However, Candice happened to be the caretaker of her small town and she had left all the keys in her trailer, so she quickly re-entered the burning home to get them but was soon disoriented by the thick smoke. When Anna noticed that Candice was in trouble, she bravely jumped into the burning inferno, located Candice, and started pushing and nudging her until she finally made it out of the door to safety. They both escaped in time, just before the roof collapsed.

Candice was very touched to receive Master’s Shining World Hero Award on behalf of Anna and also Master’s book The Dogs in My Life. Although Anna is usually very shy, she was very attentive and excited during the Award ceremony. She especially loved the vegetarian doggie treats. In addition to the beautiful crystal plaque, Anna also received a lovely custom-fitted coat, and a soft comfortable bed.

On that bright sunny afternoon, Master’s love and compassion was felt by all. It was also an inspiring reminder of the brave, loyal and selfless noble qualities that our animal co-inhabitants possess. Thank You, Master.
