Dr. Bob Donovan - Honoring a Benevolent Doctor
|
On April 25, Golden Year 6 (2009), Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association members held an award ceremony for Dr. Bob Donovan, a Marianist Roman Catholic priest, at Vegan Café in Cincinnati, Ohio. The loving doctor established Cincinnati’s first medical van for the homeless in 1988 and for the last 15 years since the founding of the Center for Respite Care, he has been providing health care for those marginalized by society who would not otherwise have access to medical treatment. To this day, he continues with the mission of compassion and remains the only doctor in the area providing this merciful and heartfelt service. Apart from the Award plaque, Dr. Donovan also received a check for US$20,000, a beautiful framed appreciation letter and gifts from Master.
Dr. Donovan’s family and friends were very happy to attend the Shining World Compassion Award ceremony. His mother, who was delighted about the recognition, stated that her son has always been a fine person since his childhood and has always been doing his best to help others. Dr. Donovan humbly shared that Jesus was an example for him to follow and it was Jesus’ teachings that influenced his chosen path in life - to serve the people in need. He said that he was overwhelmed to receive the US$20,000 from Supreme Master Ching Hai and that he would continue to serve the homeless and needy. Dr. Donovan extended a special thank you to Supreme Master Ching Hai for Her love and generosity. Following the ceremony, delicious vegan food and drinks were served to Dr. Bob Donovan and his guests. The celebration was an uplifting and cheerful occasion enjoyed by all who attended.
