On February 23, Golden Year 5 (2008), Hawaii Center initiates, on behalf of Supreme Master Ching Hai, were honored to present the Shining World Compassion Award to 86-year-old Ms. Alice Yoder of Kaneohe, Hawaii. Ms. Yoder established the "Well of Love" project that has provided clean water to a hospital in Githumu, a poverty-stricken district outside of Nairobi, Kenya, Africa, where she was born.

With the help of her church group, Ms. Yoder organized a garage sale in her local community, with the entire proceeds going to the construction of a well for the Githumu Hospital in Kenya. She said, "I just felt that this is where my roots are. Those people are so grateful for everything you do. For what little they have, they're just truly grateful I wanted to put in a well for them so they would always have clean water and they would always have enough."

The presentation was held outdoors at Alice Yoder's home in Hawaii. Ms. Yoder was very happy and excited to receive the first-ever Shining World Compassion Award in Hawaii. She said that it was very special and truly felt honored to receive this type of Award that is given to common, grassroots people.

In addition to the beautiful crystal plaque, Ms. Yoder received Master's publications and a check of US$5,000. She was positively stunned and amazed at the monetary gift from Master, because it came at the perfect time when they needed additional funds to purchase a storage tank to house the water after raising enough money for the well.

Congratulations, Ms. Alice Yoder, and we thank God for Master's timely arrangement to help complete the "Well of Love" project.
