Master's Award Presentation to Mr. Nathan Winograd

On March 16, Golden Year 4 (2007), the representatives of The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association presented the Shining World Leadership Award and a contribution of US$5,000 to Mr. Nathan Winograd, the Director of the No Kill Advocacy Center, who is determined to save approximately five millions animals including dogs, cats, gerbils, hamsters and rabbits. (Refer to News #177)
After reading the book "Diet for a New America," Mr. Winograd was greatly inspired by John Robbins's words that our health, happiness, and the future of life on earth depend on our shifting to a compassionate way of eating. Therefore, after graduating from Stanford University Law School 20 years ago, he became a vegetarian. His wife and two children, age 7 and 4, are also vegetarians.

Currently, apart from running the No Kill Advocacy Center, Mr. Winograd has a consulting business with nearly a dozen animal welfare groups as clients, which have a collective membership of over 500,000. He is frequently called upon by the media to discuss animal sheltering issues and has been featured in Reader's Digest, Metropolitan Home, USA Today, Air America Radio and many local newspapers and radio stations. He also speaks publicly at seminars around the country on a bi-monthly basis. These events are attended by upwards of 400 people per event and are preceded by media attention.
Regarding the No Kill Advocacy Center's philosophy, Mr. Winograd said, "It's up to each and every one of us to work together to implement sheltering models that have saved thousands of animals. A No Kill Nation is within our reach; and if we work together - with certainty of purpose, assured of our own success, with the philosophy of 'what must be done, shall be done' - the attainment of our goal will not be far off."
Upon receiving the Shining World Leadership Award, Mr. Winograd returned a thank-you letter and a new book of his own "Redemption: The Myth of Pet Overpopulation and the No Kill Revolution in America." Mr. Winograd deeply thanks Master for Her acknowledgment and kindness and said that he felt very honored to have received the Award from Master Ching Hai.
